It was a lovely weekend for weddings here at Homewood and The Glen. Heidi had gone to Raleigh for a Graduation of a friend so I was in charge.
The Bride and her father got into position to head down the stairs. She looked beautiful. I was holding her dress and trying to be as unobtrusive as possible while standing 2 feet from them.
The Bride asked her father not to talk about anything emotional or she thought she wouldn’t make it down the isle.
Her father immediately talked about when she was younger and would convince him to ride the roller coaster and as the car was climbing the initial hill she would change the story and ask why he had gotten her on the ride.
At the end of the ride she would love the experience so much that again she would convince him to ride a bigger roller coaster, and again she would ask why he had gotten her on the ride.
I admired the fathers’ ability to talk about something fun and light, but at the same time so topical and poignant.
They made it down the isle and at the end of the ride she loved the experience, but there was another passenger in the car with her whom she loved.
